Being optimistic is all about having the right mindset…period!
When you walk through life with a positive attitude, you develop a strong belief system that things will work out for the best and those that don’t work out were not meant to be – simple as that!
What if I told you that every outcome you experience has a direct correlation to the quality of your mind. Therefore, the more optimistic you are about life, the better your outcomes will be. Here are some of my best tips for optimism:
1. Incorporate humor.
These days, it isn’t hard to find or do something funny. With YouTube and social media, there is no shortage of memes, videos, vines, and more to get you laughing out loud. Head out to watch a funny movie, watch stand up comedy, or hangout with funny people. Laughter will lead you to smiling, and smiling will lead you to feeling good. And positive people are happy people!
2. Look at things on the bright side.
Que sera, sera (whatever will be, will be)! Everything happens for a reason, even failures. It’s our attitude towards the outcome that can make or break us. Staying positive, especially in difficult times, improves our mood and allows us to remain calm. The last thing we want to do is make a hasty decision based on a negative attitude. Take a moment to assess the situation and hold fast to the belief that all things work together for our good.
3. Think positive.
Words have power – whether we are saying them or thinking them. They have the power to shape the reality around us. If you want to build a more positive vibe, try using more positive words. Eliminate negative talk about yourself, and others as well. Practice writing down or reading a positive word every morning to set the tone for the day and look at it throughout the day to keep the positivity going.
4. Stay around positive people.
The impact of those we hang out with is enormous. Avoid negative influences and people who bring you down with complaining and criticism. Misery loves company, the old adage goes, and these people will quickly bring you into a downward spiral. Find friends and colleagues who are upbeat, positive, and happy, and their resilience and optimism will pass on to you.
5. Keep yourself healthy and fit.
To have a strong mind, you have to feel strong overall. Now more than ever, we should strive to maintain an active lifestyle full of healthy choices that can maximize our energy levels and build us up. It’s easier to be upbeat and happy when you feel good inside and out, don’t you agree?
6. Make time for reflection.
They say silence is golden but it’s really time ALONE, away from distractions and the negativity of others, that allows us to re-focus on what’s most important to us. Having a positive outlook on life, despite the challenges and failures, is going to be your driving force when things don’t go as planned and also when they do! I encourage you to find something that can provide a positive outlet for you, like exercise, music, art, or reading. Just like using positive words can turn our perspective around, filling our hearts and minds with good stuff will help optimism come easier.
And remember, anytime you feel negative energy around you, switch to something positive right away!
